A Family Tradition for Over 30 Years
Blazers Shrimp Dip has been a Greenwood, SC
tradition for over 30 years. Originally served at
Blazers Restaurant, the dip quickly became a
signature item and is now available in retail
outlets across the Southeast.
The original restaurant, owned by Mr. and Mrs.
L.M. Blazer, opened in the early 1940s and featured
a family style fish camp atmosphere. The building
burned in the early 1960s and the rebuilt facility
included separated dining rooms to accommodate
smaller groups and families. In keeping with the
atmosphere, most orders were served family style on
large platters.
In the early 1970s, Norma and Jimmy Britt bought
the restaurant and changed the atmosphere and menu
to reflect their commitment to personal service.
Guests were greeted by their server with a tray
of iced water, fresh bread hot from the oven served
with strawberry preserves and a chilled bowl of the
now famous Shrimp Dip and crackers, all free of
charge.
Blazers’
menu grew as it introduced new items to the area
including frog legs, prime rib, hand cut steaks,
quail, and shrimp and grits. With the restaurant’s
success, so grew the demand for the shrimp dip and
customers began asking to purchase the product to serve
at home.
In 2000, Blazers Specialty Foods, Inc. was formed
and today the Shrimp Dip is available in
supermarkets in North and South Carolina, Tennessee
and Georgia. The product line has also grown to
include Pimento Cheese and jalapeño flavors.
Although the Britt’s have retired
from the restaurant business, the family tradition
continues. The second and third generation oversees
the quality products Blazers continues to serve its
customers. |
